Proverbs 30: 8b + 9
“Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full, and deny you, and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.”
The author of Proverbs in chapter 30 is basically praying for the creation of a Middle Class. And this prayer was answered with the arrival of Jesus Christ on planet Earth. As the gospel was preached around the globe human societies changed for the better.
Prior to Christianity there was not much of a Middle Class. In the Ancient World people were either rich or poor. Christian values and work ethic dramatically changed this dire situation. The followers of Christ began to build hospitals and schools and cared for the old, the sick and marginalized – a novelty that quite frankly revolutionized the fabric of human societies. Today’s Western world with a prospering Middle Class would have been non-existent without the tireless efforts of the many missionaries who took Christ’s Great Commission to the ends of the earth.
